New Jeep Renegade 2024 Model, Engine, Exterior

New Jeep Renegade 2024 Model, Engine, Exterior – Jeep has reintroduced the little Jeep Renegade crossover. The Renegade, which is based on the Fiat 500X, combines an attractive exterior with a box-shaped container with all-wheel drive and a “Trail-Rated” logo. This is a significant accomplishment for the Jeep brand, as no other subcompact is as capable off-road. The rugged Renegade has a lot going for it, but the only transmission available is a nine-speed automatic.

This means it can go into unknown territory and has one of the best infotainment systems on the market. The engine options, which include a 180-horsepower naturally aspirated 2.4-liter and a 177-horsepower turbocharged 1.3-liter, are clearly flawed. Will striking looks overcome subpar hardware in a segment filled with Kia Seltos, Hyundai Konas, and Honda HR-Vs? We remain unconvinced following our in-depth Renegade examination.

2024 Jeep Renegade Redesign

The 2024 Jeep Renegade will retain the majority of its current features following significant upgrades last year, including enhanced safety measures and the inclusion of special-edition variants. The 2.4-liter normally aspirated four-cylinder engine included in the base model has been phased out in favor of a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine that produces comparable power to the 2.4 but with much more torque and improved fuel efficiency. The seven-inch infotainment system has been phased out in favor of the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with navigation, which is standard on all trim levels save the entry-level car.

Numerous trim levels, including Jeepster, Upland, Freedom, and 80th Anniversary, will be phased away beginning in 2024, leaving only four regular trim levels – Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk – as well as a new limited-run Red Edition vehicle. A new altitude option is available on the Latitude trim level. Gloss black is used throughout the interior and exterior design elements, as well as the fabric or leather seats with gray stitching. The Limited trim level adds new 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and mirror covers, as well as a revised front and rear valance.

Interior

The inside of the 2024 Jeep Renegade has an array of unusual shapes and accents, including a robust grab handle for the front passenger. The materials are relatively conventional for the class, combining soft-touch plastics with some rougher edges on the interior. There is adequate space in general, with the exception of rear legroom for taller people. The series has standard automatic temperature control with divided zones. Upholstery choices range from low-cost cloth to high-end leather in the most expensive versions. All variations are equipped with an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system this year. The upright dash and windshield, together with the deep glasshouse, provide the illusion of a much larger car, with adequate shoulder space and up to 41.1 and 41.2 inches of frontal head-and legroom, respectively, without the sunroof.

On the other hand, the seats lack support, which, when combined with the soft suspension, may require further assistance on rough roads. Unfortunately, entering the inside from the back creates a different impression; while the wide-opening doors simplify entry and egress, the huge front half of the cabin leaves rear occupants with just 35.1 inches of legroom. Even though the 40.5-inch headroom is more than enough, the rear seating layout is inconvenient and awkward, which makes long drives very unpleasant for people.

Engine

The Renegade series is powered this year by a single turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.3 liters. This turbocharged engine produces 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. The car comes standard with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The turbocharged engine generates lots of torque but is hampered by the year 2024’s perhaps worst implementation of an automatic transmission. Shifts are jerky, the gearbox is always looking for a suitable gear but never finds one, and even manual shift instructions are futile since the transmission ignores them. Furthermore, nine gears are ineffective if the eighth and ninth are never engaged, even at highway speeds with little throttle input. When the engine is in its current form, it’s just terrible. Even though a manual transmission would make the experience better, this engine is just bad.

The EPA rates the 1.3-liter turbocharged engine in 2WD trim as the most fuel-efficient engine in the range, achieving 24/32/27 miles per gallon in city, highway, and combined driving. When fitted with the 4×4 system, the figures decrease to 23/29/26 mpg. The Trailhawk 4×4 has the lowest fuel efficiency in the series, with 22/27/24 miles per gallon. The most economical model, with a 12.7-gallon gasoline tank, should have a total cruising range of approximately 343 miles. To put this in perspective, the 2.0-liter Subaru Crosstrek automatic achieves up to 28/33/30 miles per gallon.
