Jeep Renegade 4XE 2024 Electric, Engine, Redesign

Jeep Renegade 4XE 2024 Electric, Engine, Redesign – The miniature 2024 Jeep Renegade crossover is a throwback to Detroit’s past. All-wheel drive is standard on the Renegade, as is a badge that says “Trail-Rated.” The Fiat 500X shares a platform with the Renegade, so the two vehicles share stylistic cues. Jeeps are famous for their off-road prowess, and the new Renegade is no exception, but a nine-speed automatic transmission is a significant downer.

The 2.4-liter customarily aspirated or 1.3-liter turbocharged engines are noticeable flaws in the powertrain options. With the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, and Honda HR-V vying for attention, can daring design overcome mediocre hardware? We’re not so sure after reading our in-depth Renegade review.

The 2024 Jeep Renegade will see fewer modifications than the Renegades of the previous year, which include new safety features and limited-edition variants. It’s time to retire the 2.4-liter normally aspirated four-cylinder in entry-level cars in favor of the turbocharged 1.3-liter engine, which makes about the same amount of power but consumes far less gasoline. The former seven-inch infotainment system has been replaced by the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system, which incorporates navigation on all trims save the basic model.

A new Red Edition model, which is only available for a short time, replaces the Jeepster, Upland, Freedom, and 80th Anniversary grades in the 2024 Jeep portfolio. Interior and exterior design components are gloss black, and a cloth or leather seats have gray stitching in the new Altitude package, which is only available on the Latitude trim level. Fog lights, mirror caps, and a reworked grille and valance are included in the Limited package.

Interior

Thanks to the strong grab handle that sits just in front of the front passenger, it’s hard to become bored in the Renegade’s interior. The inside features a combination of soft-touch plastics and some sharper edges, which is normal for this class. Legroom in the back is a problem for taller passengers, but overall there is plenty of room for everyone. Dual-zone automatic temperature control is standard throughout the board. The materials used for the upholstery vary widely, from basic fabric in the entry-level models to high-quality leather in the most costly ones. 8.4-inch displays are standard on all trim levels this year. There is a feeling that this car is considerably bigger than it actually is, thanks to its upright dash and windshield, as well as its deep glasshouse, which provides 41.1 inches (without the sunroof) of frontal head and legroom space.

There are certain drawbacks to this car, including a soft suspension and seats that don’t offer much support. Unfortunately, getting into the back of the cabin is a whole other story. While the wide-opening doors make it simple to get in and out, the spacious front half of the cabin leaves only 35.1 inches of legroom for the back passengers. This car has a lot of headroom (40.5 inches), but the way the back seats are set up is uncomfortable and not good for long trips.

Engine

This year’s Renegade lineup has just one four-cylinder engine option: a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-banger. This turbocharged engine produces 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque at its peak. An automatic transmission with nine gears is the only available option. The turbocharged engine produces a lot of power, but it is slowed down by the weakest automatic transmission implementation available in 2024. Irregular shift times are compounded by a gearbox that is continually searching for the right gear and never settles on one. Even manual shift reminders are useless, as the transmission just ignores them. The eighteenth and nineteenth gears are also of little value because they are never engaged, even when the vehicle is travelling at highway speeds with minor throttle inputs. There’s little doubt that a manual would enhance the driving experience, but as it is, the powertrain is just plain annoying.

On the city/highway/combined cycle, EPA-rated fuel economy for the 1.3-liter turbocharged 2WD model comes in at 24/32/27 mpg. Those values drop to 23/29/26 mpg if you opt for the 4×4 drivetrain. The off-road-focused Trailhawk with 4×4 consumes the most fuel at 22/27/24 mpg in the range. If you have a 12.7-gallon petrol tank, you should be able to cruise for roughly 343 miles with the most efficient model. As a comparison, the Subaru Crosstrek 2.0-liter automatic can get up to 28/33/30 mpg.
